Sen. L’Italien stood with residents in Tewksbury, Dracut and Andover to beat back the controversial Kinder Morgan natural gas pipeline and its proposed route through all three communities. Sen. L’Italien attended many public hearings in those communities and at the State House, met behind the scenes with both Kinder Morgan officials and state environmental officials, and pushed legislation aimed at checking the Texas-based gas company. Here is her letter to the state Dept. of Public Utilities opposing KM’s plan to survey private property in the senator’s district — in many cases against the wishes of property owners — as well as a few of the many stories she was involved in over the course of fighting the pipeline.
Channel 22 News in Springfield covered Sen. L’Italien’s remarks to a State House committee back in February, and also interviewed the senator about her and Rep. Colleen Garry’s bill that would give state lawmakers more control of Kinder Morgan’s plan to build a natural gas pipeline through Massachusetts with the main pipeline ending in Dracut with a feeder line that would stretch from Dracut through Methuen, Andover, Tewksbury, North Reading, Wilmington and Lynnfield. The bill is House 3990 — “An Act relative to air quality monitoring for new gas pipeline.”
